The Reluctant Homosexual Vintage Photograph & Paper Collage
$50.00
sold out
I collect old photographs of interesting men, women and everyone between and I cast them as homosocial. I take these images and create a context of queerness through collage and text to create an original work of art.
This piece is called "The Reluctant Homosexual." The partial portrait of a man is seen through an elaborate (and very campy) lavender paper frame. As the title suggests, this gay man is a bit shy and carefully poking his head out into our view- perhaps to make sure it is safe to reveal himself, or perhaps to hide from judgemental eyes. It is sometimes a struggle to reveal oneself as queer, and this piece tries to capture that reticence so many people feel.
Art registry number and information are inside the piece. The piece is matted in an oval window and fits an American standard 9" x 12" frame.
